Coast to Coast Poker Event Kicks Off World Poker Tour Canada

May 6 - Yesterday saw the start of the much publicized and long
awaited Canadian Coast to Coast Poker Championships,
which honors the launching of World Poker Tour Canada.
The event began with a single day, $500 ($460 + $40) No Limit Hold
'em event at the River Rock Resort and Casino, with a maximum of 550 players.
The Coast to Coast Poker Championships promises an exciting
schedule of action - seven events in total - ranging from No Limit Hold 'em to
Pot Limit Omaha.
The competition has drawn a long list of who's-who in the poker
industry, including World Poker Tour spokesperson, Antonio 'The Magician'
Esfandiari, who was the youngest player to ever win a WPT event. Other big names
include Gavin Smith and "Yukon" Brad Booth.
The $3000 ($2800 and $200) No Limit Texas Hold 'em Main Event of
the Coast to Coast Poker Championships will comprise of a three day event,
spread over the 9th, 10th and 11th of May. This will be televised for
Canadian television and broadcast by World Poker Tour Canada.
Presented by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC), the
event has a prize pool of $2.4 million. Provided the main event sells out,
the first prize is guaranteed to be $377,300.
Darryl Shiewe, vice president of casino gaming at BCLC said: "We
are proud to host the first ever Coast to Coast Championships, which brings some
of the best poker players in Canada while adding an East versus West rivalry to
the classic game. We have such good poker in Canada and with great poker rooms,
tournaments and players, there is no reason to leave Canada to play."
