May 11 - Don Cheadle, the American actor best known for his roles in Crash and Hotel Rwanda, has become an honored Friends of Full Tilt Poker.
Cheadle is quite a popular face on the charity poker circuit, having played in several tournaments for a number of years already.
He has made a name for himself as activist and fundraiser, and over the years developed a reputation for himself as force to be reckoned with on the amateur scene.
"I've done alright in the televised tourneys I've participated in and I've son several tournaments around town," said Cheadle. "I have yet to play in the WSOP events, but I hope my schedule will let me do so in the future."
Cheadle first hit the celebrity poker scene when he was invited to play against poker legend Phil Ivey in the opening round of the NBC National Heads Up Championship.
Spectators were astounded when Cheadle went on to beat Ivey, although he lost in the second round against Scott Fischman.
In the two years that followed, Cheadle was invited back each time to participate in the event. During this year's event, he again made it to the second round, after defeating David Pham.
Don Cheadle is also co-founder of one of the greatest charity poker events to be launched, the Ante Up for Africa. Together with Annie Duke and Norman Epstein, Cheadle created the tournament in 2007 to raise much needed funds for African charities, especially relief in Darfur.
Since its launch, the annual event that attracts some of the biggest names in Hollywood, has raised over $2 million for Africa.
Full Tilt Poker announced on Thursday that it was proud to welcome such an active player into its midst.
