Durrrr - The Tom Dwan Online Poker Phenomenon
|
Author: Romy
March 24 - Being dubbed "The Man" by a legion of aspiring online Tom Dwan wannabes, Durrrr gained his reputation as a force to be reckoned with by introducing an anti-conservative approach to poker.
He once said that in calculating winning percentages, if he was 75% sure the cards would be in his favour, he would always make the call. This sometimes didn't sit well with the older generation of more prudent poker maestros, but that has never stopped him from tackling and often dominating players the likes of Phil Galfon, John Juanda, Patrick Antonius and David Benyamin.
At just seventeen years old, Tom began his illustrious poker career at the fun tables on Paradise Poker. He selected his online name Durrrr, which was intended to invoke incitement amongst his rivals, a beginning that aptly portrays his rigorous poker style to this day. Within two months, he progressed to low stakes games and gradually extended his risk taking and subsequent earnings. His bold and fearless style saw him win $15 000 in his first year, followed by a dramatic surge in profit taking as he advanced to high stakes poker games of S500/$1000 (NLH).
An article published in Bluff Magazine, saw the writer, Chris Vaughn describe a "quick sesh" in which Tom Dwan and his housemate, David Benefield ("Raptor 517") played six tables with a minimum limit of $100/$200. In under an hour, Tom had accumulated winnings totalling $200 000!
Tom has also demonstrated his poker prowess in live tournaments, by coming second in the Pot Limit Omaha Australian Millions Poker Championships, fourth at the NHL WPT Foxwoods Tournament, and second at the NHL WPT Borgata Winter Open where he secured $226 100, bringing his total online and live poker winnings to an estimated $4 million.
Tom Durrrr Dwan can be viewed delivering his aggressive and exhilarating performances most evenings on FullTiltPoker.com and
Poker Stars.
