March 1 - Six players are left at today's TV table to determine the winner of the L.A. Poker Classic at the Commerce Casino. First prize is a whopping $2.4 million and the smart money is on either JC Tran or Paul Wasicka for the title.
Wasicka has arguably emerged as one of the very best tournament players in the world over the past year and if he wins this event it will come as no surprise to me. We recently profiled him in our "future legends of poker" column, and his play yesterday underscored why he a cut above most of the other young guns of poker.
He outplayed a number of dangerous opponents including Bill Edler and Vinny Procopio. Wasicka is still however only second in terms of total chips, as he trails JC Tran's stack by a slim margin ($3.47 million in chips to $3.39 million).
Tran started the day with a monster chip lead - his stack was bigger than the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place stacks combined. He gave back most of that advantage but still has a great chance to win it all.
