Finding Weak Poker Players Online At Every Level
|
For the last year I have maintained that the best Sit N Go tournaments are found at pokeroom.com, both in terms of weak players at high limits and the sheer number of single table poker tournaments that Poker Room hosts in any given day. This is a report of a $200 + $15 Sit 'N Go that I just finished playing in an hour ago.
The most interesting hand came early on and really reaffirmed the fact that you can find exceptionally weak poker players at every level. I think that at the $200 buy-in range for a sit and go you should find strong opponents, with a few online poker pros definitely lurking in the pack. But let's just analyze this hand, and you'll concur that rank amateurs are willing to throw their money into the pot as well.
The blinds were $10-$20. Starting stacks were at 2500. One player in the big blind had already shown that he was very strong and capable. He had 3200 chips. Three players limped from early position (I folded and watched). The button, who had 2200 chips raised to 100. The big blind called, and two of the limpers called as well. The flop came 5d 4d 8s. That's a tough flop when you've raised and still have three opponents. Players take chances on small pairs and suited connectors for this kind of pot. As the raiser you have to worry about that immediately. There are also two diamonds on the board...
Everyone checked to the button, in a standard move, and he bet 400 chips, which was a pot-size bet. The big blind raised him to 1000 chips. The other two players folded. The button, who had AJ of clubs moved all-in! The big blind who held 67 of clubs and who had flopped the straight called quickly and knocked him out.
Let's look at the mistakes here. Raising with AJ suited is okay, although if you're going to raise to win the 80 chips you might want to make it 225 to go. That would have smoked out the big blind and those type of hands. That flop is so dangerous though that once you bet and someone has check-raised you it is a must to lay it down. What could he possibly beat? It was a mind-bogglingly bad play.
That type of weak play continued throughout the tournament. Eventually it came down to the guy who was in the big blind for the hand I described, a player named DanielAces, who was top-quality throughout, and me. I play at Poker Room as masterbets so feel free to come to a sit and go tournament and challenge me! If you mention Online Poker Insider I promise to never check-raise you :)
We jockeyed for position but he ultimately proved too good for me on the day. The board read 6-7-A-8-3 and I held A3 and moved all-in on the river. He called with the 9-T nut straight. In those cases you can only tip your hat, admit you were outplayed in the session, and wish him well.
