Football Hall-of-Famer Headlines Poker Tourney
|
September 6 - Last week one of the most popular quarterbacks in the history of
the NFL, Dan Merino, headlined the John Congemi Aces and Aces Celebrity Golf
Classic and poker tournament in Niagara Falls.
The ex-Miami Dolphins quarterback was one of the leading sports celebrities at
the event, which was organized to help raise funds for charities in the Niagara
area.
Since retiring from the NFL, Marino has spent most of his spare time on the
golf course. However that did not prevent the Football Hall-of-Famer from taking
part in the No-Limit Texas Hold'em poker charity event.
Marino played poker against several other sporting greats including fellow
football players Chris Mohr, Jim McMahon and Mark Rypien, and baseball player
Vince Coleman, basketball player Truck Robinson and hockey players Greg Stefan,
Pierre Larouche, Stan Makita and Grant Fuhr.
While Marino was dispatched before the end of the poker tourney, he at least
managed to knock out the event organizer, John Congemi.
