Hellmuth Payout by Ultimate Bet Questioned
|
December 24 - Ultimate Bet, the controversial (ie: rigged for years, and probably still rigged today) online poker room, has been left red faced once more after poker forums attacked the site for an apparent software glitch that occurred over the weekend.
According to reports, a game that was being played out between the celebrity face behind the Ultimate Bet site, Phil Hellmuth and DOUBLEBALLER came to a strange end after Hellmuth was awarded the pot at the end of betting - despite the fact that he held the worst hand.
Ultimate Bet immediately reacted to the incident and promised to investigate.
It did not take long for Tokwiro Enterprises, owners of Ultimate Bet, to make an official statement on their website and the company's Chief Operating Officer, Paul Leggett said: "Earlier today, we learned about a poker hand where our system paid out the losing player instead of the correct winning hand. We are investigating this software malfunction as our absolute top priority. This is the first incident of this kind that we we have encountered."
Ultimate Bet and its sister site Absolute Poker, both now part of the new Cereus Poker Network have been part of a major poker cheating scandal that rocked the industry in the past year. The incident was even part of a special investigative report by the CBS television program, 60 Minutes.
It was a group of poker players at the site that eventually led to the cheating scandal being blown open, and vigilant players are now keeping a close eye on the goings on at both sites. The latest incident, most likely do to a software glitch, did not miss these players' eyes for a second, judging from their quick reaction.
Ultimate Bet promised to release the findings of its investigations as soon as more details are known. Of course they do and will - but it would be nice if they launched an investigation BEFORE forums had to point out their cheating. Finally, the only fool in this story is DOUBLEBALLER for continuing to play for high stakes at a discredited website that cannot guarantee the fairness of their product.
