Hollywood to Immortalize Amarillo Slim
|
October 16 - Hollywood heavyweight, Nicolas Cage, is set to produce and
star in a movie about the often controversial life of poker legend, Amarillo
Slim, which is set for release in 2008.
Amarillo Slim, real name Thomas Preston, is currently working closely with Cage as the movie is in pre-production. The film will be based on Slim's book 'Amarillo Slim in a World of Fat People: The Memoirs of the Greatest Gambler Who Ever Lived'.
Respected Hollywood screenwriters, Christopher Wilkinson and Stephen Rivele, who developed scripts for other biographical films such as 'Nixon' and 'Ali', have been hired to turn Slim's book into a script.
Famed Hollywood director, Milos Forman has signed on as the director of the
project. Milos is famous for directing such Hollywood classics including One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Hair and Amadeus.
As one of the original Texas Hold'em architects, Slim won the coveted World Series of Poker in 1972.
However, the poker pro's name was recently soiled when he was indicted on three charges of
indecency with his 12-year-old granddaughter.
