July 5 - An enterprising Jamaican businessman named Gary Dyer is on a mission to
bring the poker world closer to Jamaica by hosting a poker tournament on
November 1st this year, called the Caribbean World Series of Poker.
Dyer is currently seeking approval for the inaugural tournament, as well as
trying to raise
sponsors for the event he is planning to host atop Montego Bay's Wexford
Hotel, which is located on the bay's trendy 'Hip Strip'.
Says Dyer, 'I am very excited about hosting a home-grown poker event right here
in Jamaica. Hopefully it will also serve to 'inject some new life' into the
Jamaican tourist industry which usually slows down during the period leading up
to the Winter tourist season.'
Dyer says he plans to enclose the roof of the Wexford Hotel with glass barriers,
so that the poker players can enjoy the attractive Montego Bay scenery, while
enjoying
an air-conditioned and poker-friendly environment.
However, before the Caribbean World Series of Poker can get under way it still
needs the relevant approval and sponsorship from the Jamaican Betting, Gaming
and Lotteries Commission as well as other businesses.
