James Mackey Wins Big At The 2007 WCOOP - 09-25-07

September 25 - This was a Sunday event on Poker Stars that showed how alive and well online poker really is. Event #14 of Stars' WCOOP attracted a huge field of 3325 players, which meant a prize pool of $3,325,000. The tournament started at 16:30 EST and ended at 10:54 EST when mig.com won. This means that 21-year-old James Mackey has now won a WSOP bracelet and a WCOOP bracelet in the same year.
Mackey won the $5,000 NL Hold'em event at the WSOP by demolishing the final table in record time - the fastest final table at the World Series Of Poker in 2007, and the quickest since 2003!
He was up to the same old tricks online on Sunday. When the final table got underway one player foolishly proposed a split - mig.com's response was that as long he was playing there would be no splits. He was good to his word even when it came down to a heads-up battle, which he dominated, against an overmatched player named chulwoo.
Mackey was not only beating up the opposition, he was posting on message boards at pocketfives.com while he was doing it! He ended up winning $580k to go with his $730k win in the WSOP.
At this point the red-headed kid from Columbia, Missouri can definitely afford a better haircut, and if he plans to go back to premed studies at college he needs to be talked out of it because he clearly has the poker skills to win a fortune at this game.
