Kahnawake Appoints Independent Investigator

July 30 - Following an outcry by the poker industry that the Kahnwake Gaming Commission is not doing enough to investigate the insider cheating scandals at the Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker sites, it has been decided to appoint an independent monitor to take over these investigations.

This week, the Kahnawake Gaming Commission announced that it had selected the former Director of the New Jersey Gaming Enforcement, Frank Catania, to head the investigation into the cheating cases at Tokwiro Enterprises, the parent company of Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet.

In a statement released, the Kahnwake Gaming Commission said: "The Independent Monitoring Team will be given the task of completing a full forensic audit/investigation of the online gaming business of both licensed entities. The main purpose of the investigation is to ensure that the games offered to the public are fair and honest and that all player protections as required by the Kahnawake Gaming Regulations are being complied with, without exception.

 The monitoring team will also be charged with verification that all those involved in the fraudulent activities in any manner, no matter how slight, have been or are removed from the licensee company and verify that Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker have submitted to full compliance with the directives issued by the KGC and recommended by the independent monitor."

Frank Catania was responsible for many years for maintaining trust and and integrity in all Atlantic City gaming operations. He helped update the New Jersey Casino Control Act and has since served to act on issues related to compliance in the gambling industry.
