LA Times Supports Online Poker and Gambling

Online poker and online gambling has received a 'shot in the arm' when top-rated U.S. newspaper, The Los Angeles Times, came out in support of the online gaming pastimes in an editorial called 'Don't Bet The House'.

In what could be described as one of the best media endorsements for the legalization, regulation and thus acceptance of online poker and gambling in the United States to date, the LA Times editorial asked the following question:

'Doesn't the federal government have better things to do than try to block people from going online to make a wager on the Super Bowl or the Final Four? Good Question.

It went on to objectively analyze the current online gambling legislation on Capitol Hill and then offered a clear and concise plan of action the government could employ as an alternative to making gambling online a felony.

The Times editorial also pointed out that while legislators are looking to address problem gambling, underage gambling and offshore, and thus unregulated, online gambling sites, little is being done regarding the regulation of the online horse racing industry.

Regulating and taxing the online gambling industry, which is currently worth a staggering $12 billion, is the way to go it continued. But perhaps, the most pertinent point made in The LA Times was the following statement:

'Moralistic members of Congress should not be allowed to thwart online freedoms.'

Hear, hear. We at Online Poker Insider salute The LA Times for its objective and free viewpoint regarding online poker and online gambling.
