Las Vegas Poker Pro Chip Reese Dies at 56
|
December 7 - This week the death of
David 'Chip' Reese, one of the world's most
respected and skilful high stakes cash poker players, sent shockwaves through
the poker community, not least because he was considered one of the nicest guys
in poker.
The poker great was discovered by his son on Tuesday at his home in Las Vegas,
Nevada, and is thought to have died in his sleep from a heart attack related to
the onset of pneumonia.
While Reese won some high profile events, including three gold bracelets at
the coveted World Series of Poker (WSOP) which is hosted in Las Vegas every
year, it was the back room high stakes cash poker games where Reese really made his mark.
In fact, he was famously quoted as saying in a magazine article some years ago,
'I can bet $100 000 and feel nothing, because if you think about the money and
what it means, you're gone.'
One of Reese's closest friends, poker legend Doyle Brunson, called Reese
'arguably the best poker player who ever lived' after hearing about the death of
his friend. This is an enormous compliment from a man considered by
many to be one of the original pioneers of poker.
The two friends regularly played alongside each other at an event called The Big
Game hosted at Bobby's Room in the Bellagio Hotel in Vegas at a cost of $100
000 to buy in and top prize of $2 million.
Chip Reese will be sorely missed by all and from all of us at Online Poker
Insider our thoughts are with his family and friends.
