Marcel Luske - Poker Legend
|
July 6 - If you're looking for a top poker pro who may have what it takes to win the 2006 WSOP, look no further than Marcel Luske, the most stylish and recognizable poker professional on the European tour.
If you've seen Lusk play poker on television before then you know exactly who he is. Known to one and all as the "Flying Dutchman" because he hails from Holland and travels around the globe to play poker, Luske is notorious for wearing sunglasses upside down when he plays. He also enjoys whistling, humming, and signing out loud (all of which can drive opponents crazy, which is exactly what he wants) while he is at the table, and is usually the best dressed player on tour.
There are a lot of gimmicks or window-dressing to Marcel's poker game, but they're all just a smokescreen to hide his subtsantial poker skills. Few players are capable of better reads, and he is an excellent teacher of the game.
Luske is well known as a poker mentor. He took David Williams under his wing at the 2004 World Series Of Poker and both players fared exceptionally well. The coach, Luske, finished 10th while the protege went on to claim the runner-up spot.
His new protege is Noah Boeken, a phenom from Europe, who will represent the PokerNews Team at this year's WSOP. The Insider's senior editor, Marc Weinberg, will also be part of that team and we'll update you on what these guys are like "in person".
Luske has a fantastic tournament record with wins at major events in Australia, Europe (several - Marcel was the European Poker Player of the Year in 2001 and again in 2003), and on the WPT in Las Vegas.
