March 18 - A brand new online poker network has been launched in the fast
growing Italian poker industry, by none other than software giant,
Microgaming.
The group said that it was tapping into an industry that was worth over
€3 billion last year, and which shows no sign of letting up.
At present, Italy only allows real money tournaments but it is expected that
a relaxation in the laws will allow players to enjoy an even wider range of
services over time.
The Chief Executive Officer of Microgaming, Roger Raatgever said that the
Italian market is set to become increasingly open and competitive in the months
to come. He noted that Microgaming is confident that it has the right resources
and alliances to support its operators and help them succeed.
"Italy is an important region for the future of gaming in Europe, as it has
set the standard for other countries wishing to introduce gaming regulations; it
is a crucial gateway for further EU expansion," he said.
Microgaming's new network is set to be highly attractive to online operators
who are also keen to enter the lucrative Italian poker market.
Ladbrokes Italia, the Italian subsidiary of the UK bookmaker, has already
signed a deal with Microgaming to be its first foreign operator to join the
network.
"Microgaming has a proven track record in poker as it hosts the most
established poker network. Our decision to join its Italian Network is a
strategic move that we believe will be of great benefit to our players," said
the Chief Executive Officer of Ladbrokes Italia, Mattia Nicelli.
"We are confident that this partnership will prove mutually beneficial and
that Microgaming's new venture targeting the Italian market will emulate the
success it has experienced around the world," he added.
