Mike Sexton - Poker Legend
|
Today he is known primarily as the co-host of the World Poker Tour - he's the guy who actually knows something about poker, the other guy is former tennis-bum and current poker-bum, Vince Van Patten (no poker legend article forthcoming) - but Mike Sexton was a top poker player in his day. Like Bobby Baldwin and Lyle Berman before him, Mike Sexton realized that he could make a lot more money in the gambling business than as a gambler.
Mike Sexton is now known as the host of the WPT, and also as the spokesman and chief shill for Party Poker, which clearly has worked out very well for all concerned. Sexton has finished in the money in more World Series Of Poker events than most poker pros, and ranks amongst the top five of all-time. He has won a WSOP bracelet, and also captured numerous prestigious poker tournaments around the world. He is well-respected by others in the poker game, and was very close friends with Stu Ungar, considered by many to be the greatest poker player that ever lived.
Here are some fun facts about Mike Sexton: Before becoming a full-time poker plaayer Mike earned a living as a ballroom dancing teacher. He was also a top gymnast in his youth, and served as a paratrtooper in the army. One feels confident that Sexton could raise the bar of poker analysis when it comes to the World Poker Tour show, but it is packaged along the lines of the WWF when it comes to commentary-styles, and they do not want to alienate the common man with complicated notions of poker strategy, or that general enemy of TV - "thinking". In that regard, Vince is the perfect co-host, since one gets the impression that his brain is stretched to the very limit as it is.
