Mike Sexton Wins WSOPC Champions Tournament

Mike SextonJune 29 - Mike Sexton, the host of the World Poker Tour and possibly poker's finest ambassador has earned $1 million by winning the 3rd annual World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) Tournament of Champions in Las Vegas.

Playing at the plush Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino's Amazon room, Sexton took 17 hours to beat out the 'who's-who' of poker at the final table in the invitation only poker freeroll, including last year's Tournament of Champions champ, Mike Matusow.

Said Sexton after his victory, 'I am so happy to have won this prestigious event. To have come back after all these years and win this tournament, particularly when playing against such great poker players, really makes me proud.'

The freeroll was by invitation only and was limited to a field of 27 of poker's best, including Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu, Mike Matusow, Chris Ferguson, Kido Pham, Mike Sexton and Daniel Bergsdorf.

Matusow earned $250 000 after he was knocked out in third place when Sexton called his all-in re-raise. Matusow explained that he was frustrated with the result because he wanted badly to defend his Tournament of Champions title, but admitted to being outplayed by Mike Sexton.

Top-rated player Daniel Negreanu finished in second place and earned $325 000 after a 5-hour heads-up battle against Sexton.

Said Negreanu, 'It was a tough final table because of the high caliber of players. I am not that critical about the way I played because looking back, I must have missed just about every big draw I had, which cost me in the end.'

The final table results were:

1st Place - Mike Sexton - $1 000 000
2nd Place - Daniel Negreanu - $325 000
3rd Place - Mike Matusow - $250 000
4th Place - Chris Reslock - $150 000
5th Place - Andrew Black - $100 000
6th Place - Darrell Dicken - $75 000
7th Place - Chris Ferguson - $50 000
8th Place - Kido Pham - $25 000
9th Place - Daniel Bergsdorf - $25 000
