Movie About Poker Will Showcase World Poker Tour
|
"Deal" is the latest Hollywood film that will attempt to take advantage of the poker craze. This movie looks a lot like the Insider's hitherto unique Poker Experiment, as it deals with the story of an ex-gambler, played by Burt Reynolds, who tutors a young player, Bret Harrison takes that role, instructing him on how to become a great poker player.
The film has received permission to use the World Poker Tour as a realistic backdrop for the climactic tournament. The real stars of the WPT television show, Mike Sexton, Courntey Friel, and that annoying guy with long hair, will all play themselves in the film. The real set will also be used, as the final tournament is meant to be a fictional World Poker Tour event.
There are a lot of poker films in the pipeline, including a film by Curtis Hanson that stars Robert Duvall as a Doyle Brunson-esque poker legend, and a film based on Phil Hellmuth's rise to glory. Can't wait for that one.
