They're down to the Elite Eight in the NBC Heads-Up Poker Championship and top players remain in the field including Daniel Negreanu, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson", Sam Farha, and Barry Greenstein. As we predicted on the Insider, Phil Hellmuth had no chance of defending his title and was duly eliminated in the first round by Chip Reese.
The quarter-final bracket features some potentially mouthwatering confrontations. Daniel Negreanu will take on braggart and all-round nasty guy Sean "The Sheik" Sheikhan, who made a name for himself insulting everyone at last year's World Series Of Poker Main Event. The NBC Heads-Up Championship still has two previous winners of the WSOP Main Event, Huck Seed and Chris Ferguson. If Ferguson can beat poker author Jim McManus (he should have little trouble in that match up) and Seed can get past Barry Greenstein (a big "if" - we feel that Barry will come through there) then the WSOP winners would face one another in the semis.
The other match up sees two of the biggest gamblers in the world Sam Farha and Ted Forrest go heads-up. That should be a great contest. The winner is likely to face Negreanu, who is playing great poker once again.
