March 11 - Hoping to get across the message that Ladbrokes Poker is a
highly accessible online poker site and that poker is a game for "everyone", the
poker room has signed on Irish pop star, Shane Lynch as its ambassador.
The year long sponsorship deal will see the Boyzone singer represent the site
and learn the ropes of the game, which he only started playing a year or two
ago.
"Shane is the perfect ambassador for Ladbrokespoker.com - he's a great guy
and totally down to earth," said the Head of Poker at Ladbrokes, Kate McLennan.
"We want to show that poker is for everyone," she said. "We're not like other
sites that spend huge amounts on poker professionals that their players will
never be able to relate to. Ladbrokes Poker is the site that's friendly,
accessible, where all ages and abilities come together. Poker takes a moment to
learn and a lifetime to master. With Shane, we want to show that anyone can give
it a go and have fun."
Lynch made no pretence of the fact that he is no poker pro. The singer only
learnt the ropes of the game at the Ladbrokes Irish Poker Festival in Killarney
in 2008, but has since gone on to enjoy a few events.
"I'd always been a bit intimidated by the poker seen;" confessed Lynch. "I'd
seen it on TV and found the whole thing a bit baffling. But having spent time
with the Ladbrokes players at a few events last year, I've seen that you don't
need to be an expert to give it a go. I'm really looking forward to getting into
this poker journey, learning more and having some great fun along the way."
Ladbrokes has also supported Lynch in his love for the sport called Drifting
by associating themselves with the singer during the UK Drifting season.
