New Poker TV Show Launched by Montel Williams
|
January 28 - Montel Williams, the Emmy award winning smooth talk show host, is putting his love for the game of poker to good use by launching a brand new television show entitled the International Team Poker League.
Montel was the chip leader at one point in the WSOP Main Event, earning TV time for something other than shows on pregnant teen paternity tests.
The new reality poker show will hit the screens in November and is already causing waves in the poker industry.
"I love poker!" said Montel Williams. "It's a game that has everything, played by kings and leaders, and regular joes alike. It crosses boundaries and borders, thanks to technology and the internet, a global phenomenon that brings people of different ethnicities and origin together around the world. It is truly international, and the time is right for the International Team Poker League to take poker to a new level and a wider audience."
Williams said that the new International Team Poker League will combine the technology of the internet with mainstream media. Part of the reality show will be played out on the internet, with online satellites determining which players pass through to the next phase. Satellites will also be held at land based casinos.
The point of the reality program is to declare one final winner of the International Team Poker League. Winners of satellite events will be flown into Las Vegas and battle it out against each other on different teams, before a final table is selected. The winner of this table will be crowned champion of the television series.
Williams' idea is to mesh together even further the relationship between the internet and the world of television when it comes to poker. He is seeking sponsorship from the online poker world for the new show which debuts next winter. Good luck with that, Montel!
