Noble Poker Offers Tournament With Potential $100 Million Prize
|
Noble Poker, now owned by Empire Online, announced that they would hold an online poker tournament with a potential grand prize of $100 million. Our advice, as with all of Empire Online's marketing schemes, is to read the fine print and concentrate on the word "potential". The prizemoney will only be given away if a royal flush, in spades no less, is dealt at the televised final table.
So it isn't really a $100 million tournament after all, but rather a gimmick playing off the rise in poker's popularity. One could argue that these type of tournaments work against online poker in the long run. The beauty of online poker is that it enables small players to win entries into genuine major events and compete against the best in the world for huge, guaranteed, prizemoney. There are many legitimate satellites and qualifiers being held every day on good online poker sites like Caribbean Sun Poker and Poker.com, where you can win a seat at a sanctioned World Poker Tour event or at the Aussie Millions.
What will Noble Poker pay out if the final table is struck by lightning? The chances are roughly the same as someone being dealt a royal flush in spades. We wonder if both hole cards have to play as well - it would come as no surprise if there were further stipulations of that nature. There are already enough solid online poker rooms with good tournaments and excellent reputations - beware and avoid those that offer things that appear to be too good to be true.
