July 11 - A very naughty British
online poker player let his fondness for
poker spiral out-of-control when he embezzled over £1 million from the
company he worked for to fund his online poker playing.
Bryan Benjafield stole the money while working as a bookkeeper for Charminster
Limited, a London-based company that has since been forced to liquidate due to Benjafield's
inability to gamble online responsibly.
The 23-year-old managed to siphon off fund via withdrawals, electronic transfers
and self-written checks to the tune of £17 000 each day.
Incredibly, Benjafield, who had known his employers since he was 17, told police
that he gambled away all £1 million pounds playing online poker during the three years he was with
the company.
The full extent of Benjafield's thievery was only exposed when the financial
records of the company were properly examined.
The moral of the story is that stealing is wrong and that if you cannot gamble
responsibly in any way, shape or form, do not gamble at all.
