March 10 - The European Poker Tour Berlin leg was certainly not
without its action.
Players expecting to enjoy top poker action were stunned to find themselves
in the middle of a broad daylight robbery where criminals stormed the hotel
where the tournament was taking place and tried to get their hands on the €1
million prize.
The robbery, which was screened live on TV, involved plenty of drama. Several
poker players were injured in the scuffle that ensued between the robbers and
security guards, and the gang finally managed to take off with €150,000 of
the prize money.
After the robbery, operators decided that the show must go on and continued
with the tournament.
The event was finally won by American player, Kevin MacPhee who qualified for
the EPT tournament online through
Poker Stars.
The 29 year old's victory was clouded due to the tension surrounding the
robbery but he was nevertheless thrilled with his €1 million windfall.
MacPhee had entered the final table with a chip lead, eliminating players one
after the other on his way to the top.
The first to go was Nico Behling from Germany, who won €72,000 for his 8th
place, followed by Marko Neumann (€120K), Marcel Koller (€165K) and Ketul
Nathwani (€210K).
The player who was left in fourth place, Artur Wasek, left with €280,000
in his pocket, while the third placed Marc Inizan won €350,000 for his
efforts.
MacPhee met Finland's Ilari Tahkokallio heads up, somewhat in continuation of
their duel in the RPT London 2009 Pot Limit Hold 'em/Omaha event.
Takhokallio was eventually eliminated, taking home €600K, with MacPhee
declared the winner.
