September 22 - An avid Canadian online poker player known simply as 'spawng' has won two PokerStars.com World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) events in consecutive years.
This year spawng walked away the winner of the Event 4 No-Limit Hold'em Match Play event, earning himself a cool $58 248 in prize money and a coveted WCOOP championship bracelet.
Just over 2000 players took part in this year's No-Limit Hold'em Match Play
event in what PokerStars.com described as 'the largest heads-up poker
competition in the history of poker' with a massive $409 000 prize pool.
At the bitter end it was between spawng and 'k-nuts'. Eventually spawng proved that he in fact had the nuts and walked away victorious. K-knuts earned himself $48 248 for coming in second.
According to PokerStars.com, the first four events of the 2006 WCOOP have already exceeded the prize pool for the entire WCOOP program in 2003.
