PokerShare.com, which burst onto the online poker scene a couple of months ago with the usual bravura marketing campaigns (attempting to buy the rights to rename a small American town "pokershare"), has closed down in another online poker feud of epic proportions. The main player in this battle is Excapsa, which operates Ultimate Bet, and is the parent company of the licensor that shut down PokerShare players' accounts.
Poker Share was a novelty site from the outset, promising poker players that they would have the opportunity to "own" a piece of the company by playing there. It was an interesting spin on the rakeback concept, just as trying to buy rural hamlets in Kentucky was an interesting spin on the type of marketing ideas conceived by Golden Palace. One hesitates to use the words "gimmick" and "flash in the pan", but it honestly comes as little surprise to see that PokerShare appears to be a fly-by-night venture gone wrong.
We do not know any of the details as to why Excapsa moved to pull the plug on PokerShare, but we do know that PokerShare's royally pissed, and if you go to their home page you'll see what we mean.
