Online Poker Star Wins Mirage WPT Event
|
Author: Marc Weinberg
May 26 - Jonathan Little, aka FieryJustice online where he is an SNG machine, has won the first event of the new WPT (season 6 already) at the Mirage Poker Showdown. Not only did he make more than $1 million for finishing first but he also got past a filthy tough final table that included Phil Ivey and Darell Dicken.
I am a big fan of Jonathan's website called SNGIcon.com, which he runs along with some familiar online poker names led by bigjoe2003. The latter is the first VIP Super Nova player on Poker Stars, and has now earned enough FPP points (a staggering 5 million) to claim an Aston Martin from the online poker room.
But Little's forte is clearly MTT tournaments and the WPT is becoming his own personal playground. The 22-year-old has already made a final table in a WPT main event, and has numerous quality finishes but they pale in comparison to this achievement.
Jonathan Little was dead and buried in this event at the end of day 2. He had only 5000 chips left, enough for a mere 6 big blinds, and was preparing to make his exit early on Day 3. Instead he ran super-hot and ended the day on 225,000 chips, winning six or seven all-in races in a row.
He then entered the final table action 4th in chips but the turning point was the huge hand where he busted Phil Ivey to scoop a monster pot:
FieryJustice raised from the button with Ad8d and Ivery called from the blind with Qc2c.
The flop came 8 - 8c - 3c. Little flopped a set and Ivey flopped the flush draw. They both checked. The turn was another club giving Phil Ivey the flush and the lead. He bet out and they eventually got all their chips in. The river was an A, busting Ivey and catapulting Little towards the first WPT title of his career.
Here is how they finished at the Mirage and what they took home in terms of prize money. You can see what a powerful final table it was...
1. Jonathan Little $1,091,795
2. Cory Carroll $561,966
3. Darell Dicken $259,369
4. Richard Kirsch $172,912
5. Phil Ivey $129,684
6. Amnon Filippi $100,865
