|
Author: Marc Weinberg
March 12 - Poker Stars Sunday Million tournament yesterday turned into the Sunday Two Million tournament after 10,000+ players entered and Stars added an extra $500,000 to the pool - proving yet again that online poker is no Internet bubble phenomenon.
The field of 10,508 players marks a watershed moment in the brief and compelling history of online poker. It is the first time that more than 10,000 players have entered a large buy-in event. Players shelled out $215 to join in the fun.
Yesterday was the official one-year anniversary of the Sunday Million at Poker Stars and to celebrate they added the half-million as a sweetner.
This gesture prompted a feeding frenzy and an amazing 1314 players cashed. At the final table a five-way deal was reached and the top five finishers all walked away with at least $100,000 for their efforts.
To demonstrate the depth of online poker right now the other three big poker sites all held their Sunday tournaments as well and gave away $400,000 (Full Tilt), $300,000 (Party Poker), and $200,000 (Ultimate Bet) respectively.
