Party Poker Traffic on the Rise Despite Industry Setbacks

Party Poker funds seizedJune 23 - Online payment processors reported that the United States Department of Justice seized nearly $30 million, primarily in cash from online poker players who played from within the United States. Party Poker, however, hasn't seen any downturn. The opposite is true, in fact.

Site action has risen 12% this week, mostly attributable to the new promotion called The Million Dollar Hand. The Million Dollar Hand is a promotion in which players receive a card for every 15 loyalty points they collect. When a player receives five cards, they win a prize for any hand containing a pair or better, with a grand prize of one million dollars for a royal flush. Players can receive up to two hands a day, so there are many opportunities to win. Players are entitled to win more than one royal flush, so there's no need to stop playing just because a player's already won.

PartyGaming's stock has also gone up despite the seizure. While some might consider it remarkable that Party Poker survived the seizure of $30 million and is doing better than ever, it's clear that Party Poker's policy of not taking action from jurisdictions which prohibit gambling has proven sound.

Unlike Party Poker, which continues to flourish, sites like PokerStars have seen a significant drop in revenue. Other sites which were affected by the Department of Justice Action but attract a predominantly non-American audience have also seen increases in action as they begin qualifiers for the WSOP and add more tournaments.

Party Poker has been seeing a steady rise in action over recent weeks and projects future rises in action.
