PartyGaming CEO Demands Answers from US

PartyPoker.comSeptember 11 - After hearing about the arrest last week of Sportingbet chairman, Peter Dicks, PartyGaming chief executive, Mitch Garber launched a war of words against the U.S. Department of Justice for its anti-online gambling crusade.

Dicks was arrested by U.S. officials at New York's JFK airport on Thursday last week, under a warrant issued in Louisiana charging him with unlawfully accepting online bets from American gamblers.

Less than one hour after hearing about Peter Dicks' arrest, Garber made a statement criticizing countries such as the United States for protecting their own national gambling concerns, while attempting to ban online gambling.

He went on to say that he believes these countries are exhibiting a 'sour grapes' attitude because of how fast and large the online gambling industry has become without the official sanction of or input from government.

PartyGaming
, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE), owns and operates PartyPoker.com the largest online poker room on the Internet today.

Garber also objected to the fact that most online gambling operators are licensed in offshore territories (such as Gibraltar in the case of PartyPoker.com) and thus should not be subject to regulation in the main markets in which they operate, such as the U.S.

With the recent announcement that Britain will issue online gambling licenses in 2007, Garber said that PartyGaming would consider licensing its poker rooms and casinos there in order to give itself increased regulatory legitimacy.
