Poker Players Alliance Membership May Soon Top One Million

April 24 - The Poker Players Alliance (PPA), one of the most influential pro-poker groups in the world today, is seeing fruit from its efforts, after it was learned that membership topped one million. It is expected that the group will make an announcement about reaching this historic milestone later in the week.

The PPA is one of the most vocal proponents of the legalization of online poker playing in the United States. In recent years, especially since the introduction of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, the Poker Players Alliance has thrown all its efforts into backing politicians who are opposed to the controversial anti gambling laws in the United States - the most outspoken being Barney Frank, whose calls to legalize and regulate the online gambling industry have been attracting huge interest in political fields.

The PPA's "If you Play, Have a Say" campaign has certainly had an effect on the public's awareness if the latest numbers are anything to go by. The one million membership announcement will most likely also be followed by the launching of a new political action committee and a voter-registration drive.

Former Senator, Alphonse D'Amato, who is now Chairman of the Poker Players Alliance, said: "Reaching one million players puts the PPA on par with political powerhouses as AARP and the National Association of Realtors."

PPA's activities are spread out in an attempt to reach every sector of the country that may have a positive effect on their agenda. Prior to the April 2nd House hearing regarding the problems faced by financial institutions in implementing the UIGEA, PPA members sent no less than 15,000 emails to members of the Financial Services Committee.

It is hoped that the upcoming World Series of Poker event will provide the PPA with the perfect opportunity to reach as many players and interested parties as possible.
