Poker Pro Has Words in Online Poker Room
|
October 1 - Best known for winning the World Series of Poker Main Event in 2004,
Greg Raymer has made poker headlines after recently becoming involved in an
online poker tournament 'chat room scuffle' with a French player during the
WCOOP hosted by PokerStars.com.
One of the Internet's highest rated online poker rooms, PokerStars.com is
well-known for the company it keeps in terms of endorsing some of the biggest
names in poker, including the player famous for his holographic glasses and
nickname 'The Fossilman', Greg Raymer.
The controversy started just after Raymer was knocked out of the 2007 World
Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) Main Event in 234th place, when his pair of
eights failed to hold up against his opponents pair of Jacks.
One of the players at the table, a French online poker player with the nickname
'belragazo', felt that this was the ideal time to abuse Raymer and began a
barrage of insults on the table's chat facility including writing 'yes!!!!!'
when Raymer was knocked out.
Belragazo explained his outbursts to the other players by saying that if it
wasn't for Raymer, he would be 500 000 chips richer, presumably referring to a
previous hand lost to Raymer.
Raymer, however, refused to take these insults lying down and responded by
saying, 'bel, you have the worst attitude I've seen in weeks', continuing with,
'I like the French, but guys like you give them their bad reputation'.
Belragazo responded with, 'U should know me, I am the nicest guy ever', to which
Raymer countered prophetically, 'bel, you're a jerk, and jerks always lose in
the end', true words as Belragazo was knocked out soon afterwards finishing
in 166th place.
