Poker Stars SCOOP Event Gets Great Turnout

poker stars SCOOPApril 6 - The new Poker Stars poker tournament that launched this weekend has already had industry tongues wagging over the excellent number of participants that have turned up to try out the different events.

The inaugural Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP), kicked off on Friday 3rd of April with its first event - a 6 Max No Limit Hold It event and started a trend of things to come.

Even SCOOP organizers were surprised how sharply the guaranteed prize amounts rose after a stunning turnout of participants - way above what Poker Stars apparently expected.

While the 'low' tournament in the SCOOP first event had a guaranteed prize pool of $50,000, this amount soon jumped to $435,000 as over 27,000 people entered the event.

The 'high' tournament of this event more than doubled its guaranteed amount of $500,000, while the 'medium' tournament saw its prize jump from a guaranteed $200,000 to $641,350.

Only one event so far has missed its guarantee, although Poker Stars was not surprised as these types of specific events do not always attract a strong following of players. The event in question incorporated the medium and high tournaments in Event 3 - PL 5 Card Draw.

Only 120 players entered the high tournament of this event, with its buy in fee of over $1000. Poker Stars would have needed 200 players to cover the guaranteed prize.

Nevertheless, in the same Event 3, the 'low' tournament, saw an excellent turnout, with the prize money nearly doubling from the $25,000 guaranteed to just over $42,000.

In Event 4, Matt 'Choppy' Kay took home $128,000 for his victory in a $1050 buy in No Limit Hold 'em Turbo Tournament. With a total of 552 participants, the event easily increased its $1 million guarantee to $1.25 million.
