Poker Stars ups WCOOP Prizes

WCOOPAugust 5 - Poker Stars, the popular online poker site, is going all out to attract as many players as possible to its much awaited World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP).

The site announced that it would be adding $1 million in WCOOP seats to the satellite tournaments that are running at poker room from now until August 16th.

The manager of a poker room at Poker Stars, Mike Jones commented on the special offer and said: "We're calling them the WCOOP Extreme Satellites, harkening to extreme sports in the sense that we're having a massive giveaway in the satellites."

"In every satellite, we're going to be adding 50 to 100 seats to the prize pool," continued Jones. "We're throwing in literally $1 million worth of seats completely as added value, and those satellites start as low as $7.50."

Players will be able to maintain maximum flexibility by choosing a tournament they want to play in based on buy in amounts after winning an Extreme Satellite. For example, if they win a certain satellite, they can choose any WCOOP event that has a buy in amount that corresponds to their win ($109, $320, etc.).

Poker Stars believes that the upcoming WCOOP will be bigger and better than ever before. "Despite the issue with the economy, we still had good growth in our business over the last year, so I think we can expect that - to some extent at least - to translate into participation," noted Mike Jones.

The site is also leaving out the current trend of holding a mini tournament with lower buy ins, hoping instead to maintain the high reputation of the competition. "We wanted to keep the prestige of the WCOOP intact," said another poker room manager. "The WCOOP is the World Championship. At the same time, we're offering cheap ways to get into these tournaments."
