September 6 - Hockey league champion and Olympic winner, Mats Sundin
has become the latest sports celebrity to join the world of online poker. It was
announced yesterday that Sundin will become a brand ambassador for PokerStars
and represent the brand at a number of top online and offline events.
The 37 year old Sundin will already step into his role as ambassador at the
upcoming European Poker Tour Barcelona leg next week.
Sundin, a Swedish player who served as the captain of Canada's prestigious
Toronto Maple Leaf hockey team, began playing poker in his early years in
the NHL and has been inspired to take up the challenge of playing the game
online and at live events.
"I have always enjoyed playing poker," said Sundin, "and playing with
PokerStars gives me the opportunity to challenge myself and explore the full
potential of my game."
"Learning from and playing against some of the best players in the world wont
be easy," continued Sundin, "but I believe the fighting spirit I've developed as
a hockey pro will help me at the tables."
PokerStars was also thrilled with their latest addition to their team. "Mats
has gained worldwide recognition as a professional athlete, renowned for his
dedication, focus and commitment which have earned him a place at the very top
of his profession," said the regional manager for PokerStars Nordics region,
Michael Holmberg. "This profile is very similar to the qualities we witness
amongst the most successful poker pros our our sites and tours. Mats is a
charismatic leader and champion, one that we are tremendously proud to have
represent PokerStars as a brand ambassador."
