July 22 - The strength of the online poker industry could be felt when it was
announced that no less than six members of the PokerStars team had made
it to the Final Table of the 2008 World Series of Poker main event. The Final Table will
be played out in November this year, with nine finalists vying for the first
prize of over $9 million.
The six PokerStars players have been dubbed the PokerStars Million Dollar Men
because each stands to win at least $1 million from taking part in the Final
Table in Las Vegas.
"This is how poker should be," said Joe Hachem, the 2005 World Series of
Poker Champion and a member of Team PokerStars Pro. "The lives of the PokerStars
Million Dollar Men are about to change. It's going to be a great ride as we now
start a 115 day countdown to the conclusion of what only can be described as an
epic poker journey. I'm looking forward to getting to know these six players
better and helping PokerStars earn another World Series Championship."
"The break in play," said Chris Moneymaker, 2003 WSOP Champion, "will make
for a different dynamic at the final table, build more excitement for the sport
and allow the public to better understand the personalities of the players. The
benefit to the PokerStars Million Dollar Men of being with us is that these six
players will have the support, skill and knowledge of Team PokerStars players
behind them, a team already featuring 3 World Series Main Events Champions. I
think we have a great chance to bring the WSOP title back to PokerStars for
another year.
The six players who made the Final Table are: 53 year old Dennis Philips of
the USA, Ivan Demidov, 27, from Russia, Peter Eastgate, 22, of Denmark, Ylon
Schwarz, 38, from the USA, Darus Suharto, 39, from Canada and David Rheem, 28,
from the USA.
