PPA Encourages Civil Involvement
|
January 19 - When Barack Obama is inaugurated as President of the United States, he will be presented with the Citizen's Briefing Book, a collection of suggestions and comments that ordinary citizens have regarding issues that they feel are the most pressing in the country at the moment.
Calls are presently being made for citizens to make an entry into the Citizen's Briefing Book, and the most popular will eventually make the final issue before it is presented to the new President.
The Poker Players Alliance, one of the most powerful poker proponent groups in the United States, is urging its 1.2 million members to visit the Change.gov website and have their say on the matter. In particular, they are being urged to show that the legalization and regulation of online poker will benefit the United States in the long run, especially at a time when so much money is desperately needed by the government to finance its bail out projects.
A number of concerned citizens, keep to do their civil duty, have urged Obama to consider carefully the issue of online poker legalization. "Tax and regulate it! Fund your new programs!" calls one poker fan, 'FreeMarket'. "It's a basic economic theory of supply and demand, there is a big demand so there will be supply. Tax that supply."
Another poker player, best known by his online user name, 'Grapsfan', wrote in the book: "The UIGEA was passed in the most shady means possible, at the 11th hour by an outgoing Senator with a chip on his shoulder and frustration that he couldn't get it done fair and square. The UIGEA deserves the same amount of scrutiny as any other legislation. Nothing more, nothing less."
The Poker Players Alliance continues to send its members emails, showing them how to become actively involved by lobbying their political representatives and commenting wherever possible in the hope that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act will finally be overturned.
