PPA Stepping Up on Registration Efforts
|
May 7- Increased efforts are being made to attract more members to the
Poker Players Alliance through marketing campaigns and plans to
set up a strong presence at this month's World Series of Poker event in Vegas.
The Poker Players Alliance 'If You Play, Have a Say' campaign, developed by the
Herald Group, will be launched in Vegas on May 31st at the opening of the WSOP,
and is expected to boost the numbers of members who make up the PPA.
The current membership rate is estimated at around one million already.
The Poker Players Alliance presence at the World Series of Poker will include a
wide number of activities, including comments on poker forums directed at
players, running media ads, including on television, giving interviews for poker
industry magazines such as Bluff and even spreading into social networking sites
such as Facebook.
It is expected that the World Series of Poker will give the PPA the exposure it
needs, as it is an event that attracts tens of thousands of players and is also
televised. The Alliance will man a booth at the event, and will set up
internet-connected terminals for players to register quickly and easily.
The PPA received a boost in membership following the passing of the Unlawful
Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which left many players appalled and
frustrated with the controversial new law. "Out of this has sprung a political
constituency that we've tapped into to influence public policy in Washington,"
explained the executive director of the PPA, John Pappas. "And we've found that
one of the best things we can do is not only lobby members, send letters to
members of Congress and attend town hall meetings, but get members registered
and active on election day."
