Smyth Grabs Ladbrokes Poker Million

December 16 - It was Irish magic all the way at the Ladbrokes Poker Million event this week, after the four top players at the final table hailed from Ireland and produced unbeatable poker entertainment for players and spectators alike.

The final table was comprised of poker players who were sure to draw the crowds, ranging from World Series of Poker winners to lucky players who managed to rise to their placement from basic freeroll competitions. As the Managing Director of Ladbrokes Poker, Edward Ihre said: "Who knows what happens when you get two Poker Millions veterans, a couple of WSOP bracelet holders, an internet champ who's running hot and a couple of freeroll qualifiers? This will be a poker game at its most extreme!"

Early on in the Ladbrokes Poker Millions, Irish pro Marty Smyth who had reached the final table twice in the past two years, lost most of his chips but soon bounced back to take on fellow Irish players, Eoghan O'Dea, Ciaran O'Leary and Liam Flood, as well as another five players around the final table.

Smyth was knocked down to only 15,000 chips and it looked like he was on his way out of the game, but he demonstrated tremendous resilience and slowly fought his way back into the game to face Eoghan O'Dea in the last round of the game.

O'Dea, son of the WSOP bracelet holder, Donnacha O'Dea, was sure that the title was in his pocket, but Smyth continued with his fantastic comeback and finally took down the younger player in a spectacular final.

"It still can't believe it," said Smyth, who pocketed $1 million for his efforts. "I thought I was gone when I lost most of my chips early in the tournament. To come back and win $1 million is probably the highlight of my career. It just shows it's never over until it's over."
