Steve Martin Recounts Online Poker Tale
|
Author: Renee
February 10 - Steve Martin went through a particularly lucrative Ambien experience, earning himself $1000 by playing internet poker, the comedian told legendary talk show host David Letterman last week.
Martin told Letterman during the interview that he was a keen online poker fan but he has since stopped since he mistakenly believes that playing poker online is not legal.
During his online poker days, Martin recounted how he logged off from his account with $500 to his credit. He then took the sleeping medication, Ambien and went to bed.
Ambien is known to cause strange reactions with some people, including sleep walking or holding conversations, however, it seems that Steve Martin takes the prize for an original Ambien experience.
The comedian said that when he woke up in the morning, he found that his poker account showed a credit for $1,500. After contacting the online poker room, he was told that he had notched up another $1000 in winnings during the night while playing online poker - something he did not remember doing!
Steve Martin gave up taking Ambien from that moment, but what is more significant is that he has since also given up playing online poker.
Martin represents millions of US poker fans who have been led to believe that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act made it illegal for them to go about their favorite pastime. This is clearly false information, since the UIGEA only stops banks from approving transactions to and from gambling sites and it is a law that is steeped in ambiguity and confusion.
Here's hoping that we'll be seeing Martin and other celebs back at the virtual poker tables in no time!
