Supreme Hope for Danish Poker Players

PokerStars

May 21 - Danish poker players have been given new hope that they may soon be able to play their favorite game in private clubs, as they have in previous years, following a decision by the country's Supreme Court to hear an appeal on the issue.

The second highest Danish legal body, the Landsretten, decided a few months ago that poker playing in Danish clubs was not allowed according to Danish laws and that all tournaments would need to cease immediately.

However, an appeal by Frederick Hotsrup and the Danish Poker Federation was made almost immediately against the Landsretten decision and this week, the Supreme Court brought some joy to Danish poker players after it announced that it would hear the appeal at a later date.

Frederick Hotsrup was understandably pleased with the decision. "I am certain that we will reach another result than the one we received in Landsretten," he said. "This is a good day for Danish poker. It can make a big difference for everyone who loves poker."

Hotsrup's confidence also comes from previous cases that were heard by the Danish Supreme Court. It is traditionally thought that the highest legal body has contentions with the decisions made by the Landsretten and it is hoped that the upcoming poker case will be no exception.

If the Supreme Court rules that clubs may run poker games, it will be a great day for players. From the time of the Landretten ruling, many gave up their time at clubs in fear of being arrested. However, since the case has been opened once again, the clubs are again full and private clubs are once again organizing exciting tournaments.
