May 26 - While it is generally understood that online poker is
especially popular among the younger sect, this fact was proven after the
results of a survey run by Everest Poker and Jupiter Research were made
public.
According to the survey, online poker remains an enormously attractive
pastime for younger players, especially in European countries such as Poland,
Germany, Hungary and Sweden.
The biggest growth of poker players in Europe was shown to be in the 18 - 24
year old bracket, with a growth across the board for younger poker players since
2007.
In 2007, 17% of the Everest Poker survey respondents were from the 18 -24
year old age group, while this year over 40% were from that group - indicating a
remarkable increase.
While Poland and Hungary were not included in last year's survey,
nevertheless, the majority of those who took part in the survey were from the
younger player age bracket - 58% from Poland and 61% from Hungary.
Another interesting fact indicated in the survey showed an impressive growth
in the number of female online poker players. Spain, for example, whose
online poker public consisted of 17% female players in 2007, increased that
number to 44% in 2008. 46% of online poker players in Norway are female, with
similar statistics in other Nordic States.
In comparison, online poker remains a man's game in Eastern European
countries, with only 28% of the players being female in countries such as
Hungary and Poland.
The Everest Poker survey was conducted among 3000 participants who
hailed from sixteen different countries.
