The Best Poker Book Ever Written - The Vote Is In
|
You cannot play winning poker without first reading the great poker books: Super / System I, and to a lesser extent Super / System II, Sklansky and Malmuth's work on poker theory and the math behind the game, and Harrington on Hold'em, another two volume gem. Bluff magazine's website allows you to vote on which is the best poker book, and the results are in.
Two works dominate the voting, and unsurprisingly they are Super/System and Harrington On Hold'em. We at the Insider have long maintained that Dan Harrington's two books on how to play hold'em poker tournaments are the best guides ever written for tournament poker. They are very specific - if you're hoping to learn how to beat your local pot-limit Omaha game you're up that creek paddle-free, but if you want to fare well in a $10,000 buy-in WPT event you need to read this book.
Brunson's Super System volumes are an essential background in terms of poker strategy, but interestingly enough it is Harrington's book that currently leads the voting numbers at Bluff. Sklansky's The Theory Of Poker, a very tough read in terms of prose but extremely solid in terms of basic ideas, comes in third, but this is strictly a two-horse race. We couldn't agree more.
