The Final Table (WSOP 2005) - Poker Legends
|
The nine poker players who made it to the World Series of Poker 2005 Final Table, and who all became instant millionaires (and in some cases multi-millionaires) thanks to the Main Event, are our latest crop of poker legends. Just who were they exactly?
Joseph 'Joe' Hachem: 39, from Melbourne, Australia. A former chiropractor, family man, and semi-pro poker player. He paid the $10,000 fee after finishing 10th in an earlier no-limit World Series Of Poker 2005 event.
Steve Dannenmann: 38, from Maryland. A CPA and rank amateur, who ranked himself only the fourth best player in his weekly home game. Very good-natured and a pleasure to watch, he has since made the final table of the Tournament of Champions WSOP event as well.
John Derick 'Tex' Barch: 34, from Texas. A bar owner and serious poker player, who was up amongst the chip leaders for most of the way and ultimately finished third.
Aaron 'AK' Kanter: 27, an online poker qualifier. Will best be remembered for a bad beat win over Greg Raymer, and for knocking out Phil Ivey. Held the chip lead when play started on the final day, and eventually managed to finish a creditable 4th.
Andy 'The Monk' Black: 39, from Ireland. Unmarried, and a charity worker who was once a professional poker player. Spirtual and very emotional, he wore upside-down sunglasses, just like Marcel Luske, and also qualified online.
Scott 'Magic' Lazar: 42, a movie production assistant and professional conjuror. Caught lucky in the first big hand at the final table, against Mike Matusow, although he went in with the best hand (AA vs KK).
Daniel Bergsdorf: 27, from Sweden. The Swedes performed brilliantly in this event, but only one made it to the final table. He's a truck driver who is sure to move on and become a professional poker player following this effort.
Brad Kondracki: 24, the youngest player at the final table. A law student who has only played the game for two years.
Mike 'The Mouth' Matusow: 37, and the best player at the table. 18-time money winner at the world series of poker, 2 time bracelet winner. Subsequent winner of the Tournament of Champions for this year's world series of poker. Also a former jailbird, sorry Mike, couldn't resist.
