Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi is having a career year in 2006 and we're only two days into February! He followed up his second-place finish at the last World Poker Tour event in Tunica by winning the Borgata Winter Poker Open yesterday. The Grinder collected $1,173,373, a seat at the WPT Championship in Las Vegas, and a new 2006 Cadillac Escalade for his efforts.
It was easily one of the strongest final tables yet assembled for a World Poker Tour event, and it eventually came down to the two young guns, Mizrachi and John D'Agostino. "Dags" began the heads-up struggle with a narrow lead but he was no match for the Grinder who won the two big pots that ultimately determined the outcome of this classic no-limit hold'em poker tournament.
D'Agostino had all the momentum early on and knocked out three players at the final table including the overnight chip leader, Erick Lindgren, who had to settle for a third-place finish.
Mizrachi now heads off the Commerce Casino to defend the WPT title he won there in 2005. If anyone can do it right now the smart money would be on the Grinder, who looks unstoppable in his current form.
