Sit&Go, Sit 'n Go, Sit and Goes. Call them what you like, but these kind of
tournaments are hugely popular at most online poker rooms. You will find a lot
of activity at most online poker rooms centered around the Sit&Go tournaments,
so much so that you have to be pretty quick on the mouse button to get your
seat.
It is easy to see why these games are so popular. First of all, they are
usually over within 90 minutes, which is ideal if you are looking for a quick
tournament, and well-suited to the instantaneous demands of online poker players. Secondly, the odds are better. You are up against only 9 other
players, so your chances of taking the prize money are so much better if you are a skilled player (even
though there is a lot less money at stake than large multi table tournaments). These tournaments present a great
opportunity to bulk up your bankroll, if you play them correctly. Thirdly, you
can choose the stakes you want to play, and to some extent control the skill
level you want to go up against. Finally, Sit&Go tournaments offer an ideal
opportunity to start cutting your teeth at playing online poker tournaments.
Sit&Go tournaments range from as little as $5+0.50 buy in to as much as
$500+$50. Most games are 10 handed, although some poker rooms offer short handed
games, or multi table style tournaments with up to 30 players. Payout structures
differ between poker rooms, but are usually split on a 50/30/20 basis for a 10
handed game (So, for a $10 buy in tournament, the money is split $50/$30/$20
between the first three finishers).
Marc and Ryan have both played a lot of these tournaments. In fact, Sit&Go
tournaments form the basis for the
Poker Experiment, our real time poker training initiative. At the moment
Ryan is playing $20 and $30 tournaments, and he started off at the $5 level. As
a professional poker player, Marc has been playing these tournaments for years
now, and regularly plays at the $300 buy in level.
We have gained a lot of experience in Sit&Go tournaments, and we can offer
unique advice from both a novice and professional perspective.
