Top Poker Pro Busted for Multi Accounting
|
September 9 - In recent years, the practice of multi accounting - holding more than one account at an online poker room - has been strictly forbidden among respectable poker sites in the industry. Those who are caught are usually banned from the site and even blacklisted among others in the network.
It came as a surprise, therefore, when one of the poker industry's most prominent players, Brian Townsend, admitted to multi accounting at two of the leading poker rooms in the world - Poker Stars and Full Tilt Poker.
Townsend is no stranger to the world of poker, and therefore was quite aware that his multi accounting activities were a huge no-no. He is considered one of the highest stake players in the world, having moved up from playing 0.50/1.00 blinds until he perfected his game and his bankroll.
Playing under the name of Sbrugy, Townsend instructs on the popular poker website, Cardrunners.com, where his inspirational videos and daily blogs have brought many potential online poker players into the fold.
Townsend has also been seen on the screen a number of times, appearing in High Stakes Poker and Poker After Dark.
Townsend's multi accounting activities have been slammed by Full Tilt Poker where he regularly plays no limit hold 'em poker and pot limit omaha. As punishment, Townsend has been suspended from Red Pro status for the next six months.
Poker Stars has yet to issue a statement on Townsend's activities.
Multi accounting is usually carried out when a player wants to obtain an advantage in multi table tournaments. The player essentially opens different accounts at the same online casino using different names or through family, friends or acquaintances. The idea, however, is that the player will use these multi accounts to play himself.
