Two Poker Greats Knocked out of 2006 WSOP

August 7 - As the final table of the 2006 WSOP Main Event approaches, it was with much sadness that two of the poker world's finest players were eliminated from the poker tournament in Las Vegas last week.

Last year's WSOP main Event winner and defending champion, Joseph Hachem and well-known and well-liked poker pro, Daniel Negreanu were both knocked out of the 2006 WSOP, but not before each received well-deserved standing ovations from the spectators.

Hachem had his run cut short by an unlucky AA versus KK scenario. However, throughout the tournament he played extremely well proving to his critics and detractors that his rise through the ranks at last year's WSOP was no fluke.

Coming in at 238th place, he earned about $42 000, slightly less than the $7.5 million first prize he earned himself last year as the 2005 WSOP Main Event winner!

Negreanu also played his with his usual style of 'finesse' and 'genius' but eventually succumbed just 229 places before the final spot. For his efforts, Negreanu also earned himself just over $42 000.

Known in poker circles as 'Kid Poker', Negreanu's disarming brand of poker has made him one of the planet's best.

With the departure of two of the biggest names in poker, the only 'large names' remaining in the tournament comprise Humberto Brenes, Annie Duke and Allen Cunningham, who admittedly do not fall into the current A-list of poker pros.

As of yesterday (Sunday, August 6th) there are only 115 players left in the WSOP Main Event competing for the lucrative $12 million first prize and championship.

The current chip leader is relative unknown Jamie Gold who has 3 900 000 chips and leads second chip leader Michael Binger by over 1 million chips.
