World Poker Open Won By Scotty Nguyen
|
It was a star-studded final table in Tunica as poker players from around the globe gathered to compete in the World Poker Open, with total prize money of $3,171,900. Gaving Smith, Michael Mizrachi, and An Tran made it to the final nine but it was Scotty Nguyen who ultimately won it all.
Nguyen, who arrived in America as a penniless refugee, is a former winner of the World Series of Poker main event and one of the most colorful poker pros on the tour. This is his best tournament poker result in recent years. He outlasted Tran, who finished fifth, Gavin Smith, who finished fourth, Raul Paez, who finished third, and runner-up Michael Mizrachi. Nguyen pocketed $969,421 for his efforts.
The World Poker Open is one of the biggest no-limit poker tournaments in the world, and attracted 327 entrants this year at a cost of $10,200 a seat.
An online player who qualified for the event at Full Tilt Poker with the username "glfrgmblr" managed to finish 25th in this World Poker Tour event, and won close to $19,000 in the process!
