World Poker Tour Results From The Mirage Poker Showdown

The latest WPT event, The Mirage Poker Showdown, was won by professional poker player Stan Weiss who defeated several big-name pros at the final table, including David Williams and Michael 'The Grinder' Mizrachi.

Weiss had the advantage of age over the young guns who looked set to dominate the final table action. After Alan Goehring was eliminated in 8th spot the other World Poker Tour winner this year, Michael Mizrachi, would have been most railbirds favorite to win it all. He was actually the first player eliminated at a very tough final table as it turned out, finishing 6th when his pocket Queens were no match for Weiss' pocket cowboys.

Mizrachi entered the final table in great shape with over $2 million in chips, and was lying in second place, but tournament poker can be cruel and the turnarounds can be complete. The World Poker Tour's final table begins when they get down to six players, and for his efforts The Grinder walked away with a cool $129,000 (and change).

Michael Mizrachi is having a fantastic year in WPT events and has to be the favorite to end up as the player of the year for 2006 if he keeps up this torrid pace.

David Williams, who was recently spotted in a foot-fetish adult film but who remains best known for finishing second in the World Series Of Poker main event eventually finished 4th. Williams also played very well at the WPT grand final a couple of weeks ago, and is clearly in good form both as a poker player and foot worshipper.

The heads-up battle eventually took place between Weiss, who started the final day with the chip lead and held on to win it all, and the suave English poker pro Harry Demetriou, who always shows what Americans like to call "a lot of class". Demetriou confirmed why he is so highly regarded across the pond by battling hard and winding up in the lucrative runner-up spot.

Weiss netted more than $1.2 million for his victory as entries for these World Poker Tour events continue to grow at an exponential rate. Tournament poker has never looked more enticing!

You can still qualify for the WSOP Main Event or a World Poker Tour event at your favorite online poker room. We recommend joining up at a room like Poker Share where there aren't that many opponents standing between you and a trip to Vegas in July!
